1890's ART NOUVEAU WOMAN & FLOWERS STERLING MATCH SAFE HALLMARKED, GREAT DETAILS

Circa 1890's elaborate, attractive, & highly embossed art nouveau match safe. Shows a beautiful woman's head with flowing hair & is covered in curved designs combined with flowers & leaves. A stunning design & the safe is in superb condition. Retains a lovely rich natural toned patina. Hinge with original spring still functions as designed & snaps open & closed.
This match safe measures 2 5/8 inches tall by 1 5/8 inches across. by 7/16 inch thick (at thickest point). The weight is approximately 9/10 of an ounce. The rim inside the lid has an incised stamped marking of "Sterling". There are also three hallmarks in front of the word "Sterling". The first hallmark may possibly be a fancy capital "C" or a capital "E". But, we are not able to determine for sure what the first hallmark is. The second hallmark is definitely an anchor. The third hall mark is clearly a fancy capital "G". The other side of the inside rim has an incise stamped marking of "B2148". We suspect that this number is a design or catalog number designation.
The quality of design, the hallmarks, & also the superb details on this match safe give us the feeling that a specialist in match safes will probably be able to attribute this to a specific maker & possibly even to a specific designer. But, we do not currently have the answers to either of those two questions. In any event, a charming little jewel of a match safe.
