Hello, you are bidding on a stunning antique 19th c. sterling silver Moroccan waterfall necklace ~ a unique piece of Moroccan Berber tribal jewelry. The necklace has three large central hamsa pendants dangling from a filigree wire crescent moon, all marked with Moroccan silver markings and 20 dangles/some of them also marked/. Each dangle is sewn to the textile collar band. The necklace is made of very fine silver, not silver alloy, and responds of 0.950 coin silver purity. It has been tested by a professional jeweler.
The Hamsa, also known as the Khamsa, the Hand of Fatima and the Hand of Miriam, is a popular symbol found throughout the Middle East and northern Africa. The hamsa /khamsa (which means five) was worn by Jews and Muslims alike. They had a mutual fear of the evil eye, or jinn, as it was called, a constant threat. To ward off such bad luck, a hamsa was worn as a defense against the jinn.
The condition is very good for its early age.
