Cairns Aluminum Fire Helmet Model 350 "Sargent" Troy Fire Department.
Here we have one beautiful example of early Americana from the fire service. This helmet made of aluminum by the Cairns & Brothers Inc. Company would make an awesome addition to your collection. This helmet comes from the city of Troy which is located just outside Detroit in Southeast Michigan. This volunteer department has, at any given time, 180 members and protects roughly 85000 residents. There is 6 stations located through out the city that house some 16 pieces of apparatus. Monday through Friday they protect some 200,000 people. And the tallest building is 24 floors. This city is home to many world headquarters and the finest in dinning and shopping in Michigan. Yes I did say volunteer!!!! I was on the department for 15 years. I have Parkinsons and have not been to the station for years. So I am hoping that this piece of Americana goes to someone that will display it proudly. As far as the condition of the hat itself, there is paint chips, a little rust, the eagle has some wear on it, inside is clean and the leather patch shows a little cracking. Enjoy
