VINTAGE AUTHENTIC RETIRED FDNY CAIRNS LEATHER FIRE HELMET WITH FRONT SHIELD

I am by no means an expert and would fail trying to describe this, so I asked someone who does know. If you have questions, please send them so I can allow time for my expert to answer. I can tell you there is some wear to the leather as expected for this age. There is also a name on helmet made with a label maker that I found interesting. NYFD Cairns leather helmet. This helmet is an old 1930s era New York Fire Dept officer's helmet. The white helmet front was used for NYFD officers from 1932-1958. Although the inside medallion is missing, the embossing in the combs and the double rivet D-ring dates this Cairns helmet to the early 1930s. After 1940, Cairns used a single rivet to attach the d-ring on the back of the helmet.
