CONDITION:
Very good.
This set includes:
10 dual tension lugs,
20 claw hooks
(with WFL logo on each),
20 T-rods.
All lugs, rods and claws
have visible light scrapes,
surface marks, and wear.
ONE T-rod is snapped off
on one side (see photo).
One T-rod has a visible bend.
When twisting the T-rods,
some of them show signs
of very slight bending,
but only one is bent to a
degree that requires straightening.
These lugs came from an
undated 14 X 28 natural finish
3 ply drum shell with re-rings
(drum shell is not for sale).
The drum is in very good condition.
However, only a small piece
of the original WFL badge
remained, so I could not
accurately determine the date
the drum was manufactured.
My guess is early 50s or older...
Each lug has ALL original
slotted (not Phillips)
screws, inserts, springs,
lock and flat washers.
What is very notable about
these lugs is that the long
single spring in each is
wrapped - quite meticulously
(and likely from the factory)
in brown paper tape.
I assume this was done to
prevent rattles.
I mention this because just
yesterday I was listening to
"The Drum History" podcast
(highly recommended for
vintage drum enthusiasts, btw!)
episode about Hal Blaine.
The guest suggested that
Blaine's drum technician
came up with the idea of
treating lug springs
to prevent rattling.
These lugs are from a much
earlier era and also have a rattle
prevention treatment.
But I digress...
Most of the drums I've had
or have are Ludwigs from the
early 60s or newer.
This set of WFL parts are notably
different from any others
I've seen from WFL.
I have compared the hole
spacing to a set of newer
dual tension Ludwig
Imperial lugs,
and they are the same -
6 and 5/16 inches.
A rare find for the
LUDWIG or WFL collector!!!
